  • Deals Physical and Wither Damage
  • Weak to Physical Damage, resistant to Elemental Damage and Status Effects
  • Blocks healing from Sanguinarix, but not Briostones, by his mere presence.
  • While it drops 3100 Vigor, the earned value is always 9300 due to the 300% modifier the Red Umbral Eye gives
  • Placing aroune fast in this regard.
  • Useful spells - Latimer's Javelin
    • Easy win: Bait his attack from under and punish it with 1 Javelin. Due to his weakness it shouldn't take long.
  • Also known as the Red Reaper
  • Bug: It seems, that going through doorway indicating change of place resets his HP (Testing needed)
  • There is a place where mobs don't spawn during this fight. Go umbral by the Windmill vestige, pull the platform that is behind it (to the right when facing the vestige) and drop down several times. After killing the mobs, no new ones will come. This place plus Sanctify make this fight easy.

Found a good place to fight it, but its quite late game( then again, its pretty strong to fight early on). The Empyrean Vestige, the first one at the start of the area. You want to stay near the entrance/ doorway to the vestige, but not too near/ dont go in, or the scarlet shadow gets reset/ healed. Ive found that stronger ads dont seem to spawn too close to the entrance, I was able to finish the fight with only the most basic umbral enemy spawning, and there was like maybe 3 only. Umbral elites like more shades and the womb of despair will spawn if you move too far into the map. Theres enough lee way to perform some roll ins and jog around, just experiment.

Bring brio stones to heal, and equip the health regen ring. It stacks with ruiner shield on your back( for the multiple inferno rune slots, which can all be health regen runes). Its pretty strong hp regen.

This enemy is actually fun to fight, what makes it so bloody insufferable is the endless waves of bringers of stillness, despair wombs and these bloody monkeys

Best place to fight this 1 on 1 is the boss area for congregater of flesh. It's perfectly round with nothing in your way so it's easy to kite him around. The only annoying thing is the stigma in the room sometimes steals your lock on.

After killing it once but dying to a little Gremlin **** just after and losing the Vigor pick up. I fought it again with Marco's Umbral eye in main socket. Using +10 Bloody Glory and a +6 Radiant Purifier Catalyst at 50 Radiance. Consecrate did an amazing job keeping a small damage ramping effect on him at all times. Cast in as he dives into the ground. Radiant weapon for good measure and Orius Judgement for even more auto damage. The Gremlin that spawned didn't go for me, but kept being close by. A Black reaper did spawn, but since I was in Pieta's arena, it died very quickly to Consecrate. Overall died pretty easily.

I finally managed to ****ing kill one! In the big arena where you fight several dogs and a Ruiner. But a damm fly ***** spawned aand spat me down. I recovered the Withered health, but it got me once after I had some withering and it was almost dead.

I killed it, but one of those ****ing piece of **** flying Gremlins did it's unavoidable BS before I could get all those 6-7 Vigor fumes! And the loot is only 5 Scourings. God I hate the artificial difficulty this game devolves to sometimes.

              • Doable but to save you pain go to the Windmill "safe zone", no trash mobs helps. Killed him at lvl67 with double fungus pickaxes 26 inf/rad and Bloodbane ring. 2 things: 1st one is maximize your phys defence and take all +% wither health regain eyes. His attacks are half wither and so if you hit him between them you will barely lose health, but your physical protection must be high. Hushed saint or cursed sets are good. 2nd thing is - use % status effects. Poison, bleed, smite, whatever - his hp is huge. All his attacks are easily dodged, EXCEPT the spin to win, which seems to hit even if you i-frame through it and not easily spaced, so roll to the side, don't try to use it as a hit opportunity. It was a one shot for me with 30 vig and good armor. Regen buffs are fine but the main thing is you must burst him fast, he seems to have a passive life drain effect of some sorts. Oh, and he has a ranged blades-out-of-earth attack, but it is really well telegraphed by blood stain and he only uses it if he cant hit you in melee.

If you would like to farm this enemy for the scouring or just to stay in umbral for vigor farm (or both) here is the easy mode to this:

Equip the main socket umral eye that curses you in form (coincidentally dropped from this enemy) equip secondary for +15 wither health per hit.

Equip the regenerate hp aura and radiance weapon (and sanctify if needed) OR some trio hp stones

Equip hp regen ring and mana regen ring and a physical defense and attack pendant

You will be 2 handing your main weapon for this fight

Warp to the vestige Nest and go umbral

Run to the crows boss arena around the corner (anywhere works really) and there is a pocket to the right of where the boss was.

Wait till the eye is 3/4 full, at this point radiant weapon and put up your healing aura

The first attack will be standard, he glows to you pops up and downstabs like all reapers. While he is in the air lock on and dash toward him and immediately q a heavy attack. Do not move around, if you don't have umbral mobs on you. He will either slash attack, or submerge. If he slashes you simply dash thru him and heavy again. If he submerged you repeat the first lock dash attack. Stay in melee range and be aware he will try a 3 hit combo that if you dashed and stayed close enough all 3 attacks will miss OR you can dash them and heavy. It is as simple as this. Stand still, dash swing. It's ridiculously easy and dumb once you get the rhythm. 2 things to watch out for are his spinning blades, and the umbral mother that spawns. If she spawns down her slowly while dashing reaper because she will stunlock and kill you

50 points in vitality, almost 1000 defense, and the spinning attacks one hits me. Easy moveset, simple enemy, overtuned overinflated garbage. The cherry on top is the input reading, the iframes this enemy gets every time it dodges (which it does all the time), and my favorite: the constant breaking of lock on so he can hit you from behind while you're turning the camera towards him. I have one word for this: trash. Make them two: trash garbage. Thank you, devs, for this wonderful, thoughtful, elegant piece of combat design.

If you cast a sanctuary spell they CAN NOT enter the zone invisible. They sorta loiter around the circle for a bit before finally engaging you which lets you fight them. Added benefit is that the miracle also heals you so the fact you cant use your senguinarix is less of a problem.

                      • Anonymous

Very annoying that the amount of vigor it drops decays over time... I just killed one on NG+ and got 1k vigor smh

                        • Anonymous

Great idea of a pursuer to basically keep you on your toes in the Umbral, yet poorly executed. The most noteworthy problems with this enemy is obviously a reused black reaper but with red garbs, cranked up health, invulnerable to stagger, high poise threshold, drains your red health into grey if you don't keep hitting him, and if you're in an area with lots of trash mobs it's a boss that itself is not the threat but his stupid minions.

                          • Anonymous

I think they nerfed the vigor gain to the ground for this guy since the last update (1.1.430). I'm farming scourings near the Sanctuary of Baptism/Vestige of Chabui and ever since the last update he has only been dropping 1,572 vigor.

I really think this enemy encapsulated the problems I have with LOTF. An idea of something that pursues you once you clock out a timer to make you fear Umbral is great but then you get to it and it's...a reused enemy but they just gave it tons of HP. The enemy isn't even hard, but it's the fact that it withers your HP, constantly breaks your lock on and you have to contest with Umbral constantly surrounding you with trash mobs to distract you makes it annoying rather than challenging. Good idea, tedious execution and yes I beat it the "hard" way just so I can write this opinion.

                                • Best place to kill this guy is Pieta's arena, I ended up using Orius judgment on his ass. I used it originally to get the mobs that spawn around him, but it was actually effective in hacking his HP.

whos idea was to add this mf? the worst part is you cant use estus and hits hard and teleports? very stupid design!

Since the recent patch it's unkillable. I'm not in a safezone, the red eye is constantly open, and once I deplete this mofo's HP bar to about 1/3 he disappears and comes back with full HP......

Go o bramis, enter Umbral, and max out dread on one of the landings for the rotating staircase. All shades' patching is screwed up and you can stand opposite of them and cast/chuck stuff till it dies.

as hard as the enemy is currently they should add a custom armor set for this enemy like you'll get his set pieces for every 25 kills or something

Use poison, wither and radiance if possible. Try using ladders and plunge attacks in the early game areas to kill it faster. If you play an inferno character use poison javelin throwable weapon. Also you must deliver the killing blow to obtain the umbral eye

Not sure how, he can easily outdamage you through the healing.

Use poison with either Radiance or Wither. Fastest Ive gotten him has been about 2 minutes give or take. This is me being super aggresive with my hits.

                                                  • Anonymous

Ive noticed he seems to take more damage from Wither and Radiance. I can kill him fast (2-4 Mins) with 2 Pieta Swords +4 with added Radiance Buff, I have 60 points on Radiance, and Radiance Runes on both Swords. Im on a new character and Same thing applies to wither, I have yet to kill him on the new character since he can still one shot me, but I'll see which one hits him harder from both.

                                                    • Anonymous

so youre telling me they made a miniboss that can be farmed but removed the ability to easily farm it with fall damage? what a stupid game. hope you enjoy plinking at a reskin of a basic enemy for 5 minutes straight lol

anyone noticed that if you spawn him on revelation depths near the mother luli entrance he has new mechanics? Namely he sucks your hp overtime turning it into gray without even attacking you. Something to be found here.

Dont forget to equip the moth ring for extra vigor, also from previous comments you cannot get the eye unless you last hit it, you can make him take fall damage and plunge attack him. Its all over youtube btw

I just farmed this for the past hour, had various results in vigor obtained from each kill of it. One gave me 6300, one gave me 5300, another gave me 4750, and another gave me less then 4k.

                                                              • Anonymous

I think these might’ve been patched to only drop 1500 vigor, cause I’ve killed several and have never gotten 9300

                                                                  • Anonymous
