Does it cost three times the ammunition to fire? It's awfull you can't just try it out because of how stingy the game is with the currency.

This thing along with the Umbral eye that gives free ammunition at the cost of wither damage just means unlimited ammo. You take damage and totally heal with every shot. Add relic that reloads crossbow with dodge. Might be a really fun NG+ build

I'm pretty sure this is the strongest crossbow in a soulsborne period. Take Lydia's eye with it, plus the arrow ring, and at least one secondary umbral eye based around withered health healing, and you can fire infinitely so long as you hit stuff. Considering this crossbow can put out roughly three thousand damage on just about any target, you never need to worry about health. If anything, it eventually becomes a little overkill, making you miss the second bolt and end up with a slight wither health loss, but that's easily made back.
