      I think this item exists just like the Darksign. Except if i recall, the darksign did not create a bloodstain, so you could still reclaim souls if you died before somewhere and you were "about" to die again. I have no idea if the same thing happens with the desiccated moth if you died somewhere before.

      I do know it's possible to get stuck in terrain (at least only while holding the umbral lamp) and then it releasing you back to axion where there is a barricade right on top of you, and the same barricade in Umbral, so you're stuck with way out. Then if you don't have any regular moths, you can use this to get out, but it's better to just wait for the red reaper to spawn and kill you.

        This item is basically a DS1 dark sign. Like the dark sign, it has no value. Better to die to mobs or jump off a cliff so you have a chance to recover vigor. I think they should have made it cost half your vigor so you have a choice to make.
