LOTF Latimer's Javelin Notes & Tips

  • Hidden Lore: While not naturally adept in sorcery, Latimer persevered in his learning of some basic Radiant spells simply so he might better aid the comrades who fought alongside him in battle. However, as his remains mouldered in Forsaken Fen, the magic he had learnt took on a fouler, darker aspect. (Requires Inferno and Radiance to unlock)
  • Damage: Physical
  • Very long range, projectile can travel across the map for ~6 seconds, therefore can be used as inaccurate sniper rifle (due to lack of crosshair).
  • Every hit triggers an explosion with small AoE.

Pretty big damage nerf in PvP in one of the more recent patches. It was a pretty OP skill all things considered, but the basic umbral orb spell does more damage at this point for significantly less mana. Still a heavy hitter in PvE though.

It kind of sucks that all of Latimer's gear scales differently. The Spear is STR+RAD, the Halberd is Quality, and the spell is Umbral...Trying to do a themed build is just not possible in the early game if you want to use all 3 and still have good damage

This is almost the only Umbral spell actually worth using. Barrage of Echoes has some incredibly effective niche uses, but all-in-all nothing holds a candle to this. Not because it's actually overpowering, insanely strong...but because Umbral spells just overall suck.

Downsides include an awkward hitbox that *will* make this impact the wall next to you, the fact that that projectile has an arc resulting in it being unable to hit enemies at a very long distance or on a slope, and the fact that the resulting AoE will 100% make you blind if you use it too close.

Long-range, huge damage, low-cost, good speed, decent AOE. Probably the 2nd best Umbral spell after Barrage of Echoes (ridiculous damage).

However, it's better than Barrage when dealing with trash mobs while exploring. In late-game, it one-shots many trash mobs like Umbral remnant zombies. It can hit as far as you can lock-on and two-shots most ranged enemies like Sin-Piercer archers. Additionally, it fully-heals any wither damage you have (e.g. go to Umbral and just throw this at a zombie/cocoon and you're full HP).

Agree with the other comments although I'd add this is fantastic in PvE but doesn't seem to do well in PvP, not that hard to dodge out of the way... Does make me wish there was a ring to reduce casting times though!
