Lords of the Fallen Full Path of Devotion Walkthrough

Road of Penitence

The Path of Devotion can be reached by heading up and exiting the cave found to the right when entering a place of worship found in Belled Rise, the portion of Pilgrim's Perch locked behind doors requiring the Pilgrim's Perch Key. When you emerge outside from the cave, you'll find yourself at a pathway surrounded by eye-shaped totems. Turn left as you exit the cave to find the Vestige of Dieter. Right next to it, you can find Thehk-Ihir has set up shop here on the Path of Devotion. Next to him, you'll also find the Dark Crusader's Convalescence.

Turn around and go down the path the other way. Two Large Deralium Shards can be found on a body to the left of the path. Further ahead, your way will be blocked by a Marksman and three Radiant Hounds. At the end, you'll find a large hill, and the path will continue to the left. Head up the top of the hill, where there'll be a Holy Bulwark, a Radiant Hound, and a Marksman. Before you can defeat them, you have to destroy the Umbral Parasite empowering them. The Anvil Hammer can be looted from the top of the hill afterwards. As you go down the hill, hug the right side, and you'll eventually find two Large Manastone Clusters and two Ammunition Satchels nestled within some graves.

While at the graves, enter the Umbral using your Umbral Lamp. Look off the edge to find that an bone pathway has materialised underneath you. Before dropping down there, you can soulflay a Stigma at the top of the hill for a vision of Paladin Isaac and two Umbral Scouring. To the right, you can pick up a Seething Vigor Skull. At the base of the hill, you can soulflay the Umbral Belly to obtain Diminishing Missile. When you're done, do a running jump and jump down to the bone pathway we found earlier. It leads to a platform filled with Remnants, Shrouded Remnants, Umbral Eggs, and Womb of Despair. After the area has been cleared, you can soulflay the Umbral Belly at the end for a Saintly Quintessence. Head back across the bone pathway when you're done, and jump across towards a bone ladder you can take back up to the main pathway. An Emergence Effigy can be found to the left at the start of the next pathway. You can use it to return to the Axiom.

Continue following the pathway down, past the large hill. You'll get to a group of four Thorned Penitents protected by an Umbral Parasite, and an Avowed. When you head further down, you'll bump into a Crimson Rector. Defeat all these enemies, and you'll eventually find a small hill on the right where three Thorned Penitents are praying at. The item on the hill is two Smite Cures.

When you get to the bottom of the pathway, there'll be yet another large hill up ahead, and the pathway will continue to your right. Defeat the three Radiant Hounds and the Sin Piercer in the area. Enter the Umbral and at the base of the hill, you can soulflay the Umbral Belly for the Hungering Knot. Don't pick up the item next to it, it's a Ravenous Fascinator, and instead soulflay it too. At the top of the hill, on the base of a tree, you'll find an Enhanced Radiantburst Parchment. To the left of the hill, you'll find an Ammunition Satchel and two Manastone Clusters by some graves. Near these graves, you'll find a large set of Umbral double doors. This area can only be accessed if you've witnessed all four key Stigmas relating to Paladin Isaac

Boss: Paladin's Burden

If you have witnessed Paladin Isaac's key Stigmas, instead of an Umbral door, you'll find an Umbral arena in the distance. Soulflay the target to open up a bone bridge towards the arena, and you'll find another Stigma you can soulflay in the center of the arena. Doing so gives you two Umbral Scouring, but instead of giving you a vision of Paladin Isaac, this will initiate the fight against the Paladin's Burden.

The Paladin's Burden is a Dark Crusader wielding a greatsword. While most of it's attacks are fairly simple sword slashes and blocks, it does have a few moves using it's own Umbral Lamp that you should be aware of. One such move is where he takes his Umbral Lamp out with his left hand and raises it above his head. If this animation is completed, a gold light will envelop him and he'll heal about a quarter of his health. Even if you are unable to interrupt this move, this is a prime window to get some heavy hits in to offset his healing. Another move is when he takes out his Umbral Lamp but also sheathes his sword to perform hand gestures with both hands. A dark cloud will appear above you and after a short while, a series of lightning bolts will strike at the ground 16 times in succession. These lightning bolts will inflict Smite when hit and will track your movement. Simply keep running away from the lightning's trajectory to avoid getting hit. Finally, he can perform an animation that looks like when you transition into the Umbral using your Umbral Lamp. After completing his animation, he'll perform a knockback move similar to the blue pulse you get when you die in the Axiom and respawn in the Umbral. Be out of his AoE range when he does this to avoid getting knocked.

When defeated, the boss drops the Umbral-Tinged Flayed Skin, a Vestige Seed, and eight Umbral Scouring. The Umbral-Tinged Flayed Skin is an item used to unlock yet another Umbral door at the Abandoned Redcopse. These steps are important in unlocking the Dark Crusader Class and obtaining it's respective Armor Set. For now, after defeating the Paladin's Burden, return across the bone bridge to continue down the Path of Devotion.

Look towards the path going forward. To the right, you'll find an Emergence Effigy you can use to take you back to the Axiom. Down the next pathway, you'll find another group of Thorned Penitents and Avowed, this time accompanied by a Marksman. At the bottom of the slope leading up to the platform the Marksman is standing on, you'll find an Ammunition Satchels and two Manastone Clusters. Head down to the end of the path to get to the entrance of a building. Take your Umbral Lamp to destroy the Umbral Parasite in the middle of the area. Defeat the two Pureblade by the doorway and pick up the Enhanced Lump Hammer on the corpse nearby. To the left and right of the area, there'll be three Thorned Penitents praying at the base of a statue. You can grab two Holy Wards on the right side and two Bleed Cures on the left, right next to the staircase to used to come down here. Enter the Umbral and look at the large statue directly to the left of the doorway to find an Umbral Belly. Soulflaying it will net you the Umbral Eye of Loash. An Emergence Effigy can be found on the right side of the courtyard to return to the Axiom.

Back at Skyrest Bridge

Enter the building and ascend the ladder on the right. Turn around at the top and go through the small doorway at the end. When you emerge out the door at the bottom of the stairs, you'll find yourself back at Skyrest Bridge. At the end of the wall, you can find three Ammunition Satchels and two Large Manastone Clusters. Climb down the ladder here to reach some sort of castle courtyard. There are some Marksman, Avowed, and a Crimson Rector, but the Umbral Parasite in the middle of the courtyard must first be destroyed before being able to defeat them.

After clearing the courtyard, head down towards the main gates and look to the left to find a hole in a tower. Head through, then climb the stairs all the way to the top. Enter the small doorway at the top and take the ladder upwards. The corpse here carries the Pureblade Mace and Pureblade Shield. Push the ladder through the next doorway, and you'll unlock a shortcut back to Pieta's boss arena at the entrance of the Skyrest Bridge.

This marks the end of the Path of Devotion. Return to the place of worship underneath Belled Rise in Pilgrim's Perch to make your way towards the Manse of the Hallowed Brothers. If you have already unlocked the Manse Vestige, you can head straight there.

You can cheese the crimson rector from the vestige here with the magma spell. Stand where the dead sacred bell enemy is and you can stand on the gravestones and spam magma on him

thanks for not telling us at all how to get here. "the cave found to the right when entering a place of worship"

Really not sure why this area has such cracked scaling. You can get few nice items there, but generally it's tiny. Regular enemies here hit twice as hard as in any other place, perhaps except final areas of the game. I wonder if there is any need to complete it to progress in the game or it's just side bonus stuff.

There is actually a boss in this Area: Paladin's Burden, a small arena downstairs from the Vestige of Dieter. You can only see and fight the boss in Umbral.
