General Engstrom is a Boss in Lords of the Fallen (LotF). General Engstrom is a secret boss and can be found in Fitzroy's Gorge. He can be summoned after you've extinguished the five blazing hands, you'll then have to return to the giant tree and perform the Crimson Ritual Fervour gesture. This is a newly added boss that was released in Patch v.1.1.414 or part 2 of the "Season of Revelry". This is an optional boss, as players do not need to defeat it to advance in Lords of the Fallen (LOTF). Bosses are powerful enemies that add challenging experiences to the game. Defeating them grants players with rare and/or unique armaments, armor, magic, and other items. In some cases, they are required to advance the story further.

General Engstrom LOTF Fight Strategy

The Best Tips for General Engstrom:

After performing the Crimson Ritual Fervour gesture, General Engstrom will be summoned. He will emerge from the ground and immediately slam his hammers on the ground. General Engstrom moves around the battlefield frequently by dashing, he'll often dash to dodge and create distance between you, or when he wants to get close. He is very nimble, but his attacks are very slow since he's wielding two hammers. His Front Kick and Cross Swing are some of his basic attacks, you can dodge on either side to avoid these advancing attacks. Be careful when he jumps as he will perform the Double Slam, this involves a two-part explosive sequence where he slams his hammers on the ground.

Throughout the fight, General Engstrom will coat his hammers with flames, and prioritize maintaining distance when his hammers are imbued with flames. If you have ranged capabilities, take advantage of them. When he hits you during this phase, it will not only deal physical damage, but burn damage as well. General Engstrom also has a couple of ranged attacks. He often summons orbs around the area, most often near you where you'll get caught within the radius of the blast. These orbs will be summoned and explode after a few seconds. Steer clear from these orbs the moment you see them. Be cautious of the Scorching Spikes as well, a move where a searing trail courses through the ground in your direction leaving a scorching path, the flame then widens before spikes erupt from the ground. This move is initiated when General Engstrom's hand glows. Stay vigilant and anticipate the direction of the flames. Another one of his moves is the Spike Impact, he slams his hammers on the ground, where spikes emerge from the ground in a straight line at first, then extends and forms a "T" formation of spikes. Observe the emerging spike pattern and dodge accordingly. The Inferno Hammer Quake is also a move that involves spikes emerging from the ground. He also slams his hammers on the ground, but this time, the spikes will burst out in six directions. He will throw out this move once in a while throughout the fight, and sometimes the spikes will come out twice even with a single slam on the ground.

As mentioned before, he frequently dashes around the battlefield, the move Phasing Dash both serves as an offensive and defensive maneuver for him. Make sure to observe and be prepared to adjust your positioning frequently to maintain control of the battle. His move the Molten Groundbreaker might be one of his biggest AoE attacks as it covers most of the battlefield. This is where he lifts one of his hammers, before slamming it onto the ground with an earth-shattering force. The impact resonates triggering a wide and scorching AoE where the ground can be seen as a molten inferno. This can easily be dodged though, if timed correctly. He also has the ability to create clones, with his move called Shadow Blitz Assault, as he dashes through the area, he creates clones of himself. These clones will not stay on the battlefield for long, as they will dash toward you while performing a strike one by one. Dodge the clones one at a time to avoid getting hit. His Hammer Barrage is a move where he relentlessly swings his hammers, dealing a barrage of blows. Take advantage of the slow nature of each swing to time your dodges effectively.

After defeating General Engstrom, you'll receive x8 Umbral Scouring and the General Engstrom's Set.

If you want to obtain his weapons, the Judgement and Punishment Hammers, you'll have to perform the Laughter gesture at the giant tree where you summoned him after defeating him.

Front Kick Performs an advancing frontal kick. Dodge on either side.
Cross Swing Performs an advancing cross-swinging move with its hammers. Dodge on either side.
Double Slam Slams with one hammer on the ground, followed by slamming both hammers on the ground. Both slams leave an explosion afterward. Anticipate when General Engstrom jumps, then dodge when he is about to slam his hammers on the ground.
Flame Imbued Hammers General Engstrom coats both of his hammers with fire. Create some distance and don't let yourself get hit with his hammers when it's imbued with flames, as it will not only deal physical damage, but Burn damage as well.
Inferno Orbs Eruption Summons multiple flaming orbs, before exploding and covering a small AoE. Once you see General Engstrom summon the flaming orbs, create some distance as those will explode after a few seconds.
Scorching Spikes A searing trail courses through the ground in your direction leaving a scorching path, the flame then widens before spikes erupt from the ground. General Engstrom's hand will glow for a moment before summoning the flames, and he will only use this move if you are far away from him. Make sure to anticipate the direction of the flames so you can also avoid the wide flame and spikes that will erupt from the ground.
Phasing Dash Dashes through the battlefield to either cover or create some distance. General Engstrom will constantly use this move to get close or away from you.

The impact resonates triggering a wide and scorching AoE where the ground can be seen as a molten inferno. When General Engstrom lifts one of his hammers, create as much distance as possible. The molten inferno on the ground will stay for a while and will deal damage if you stand above it.
Spike Impact General Engstrom slams his hammers on the ground, where spikes emerge from the ground in a straight line at first, then extends and forms a "T" formation of spikes on the ground.  You will see where the spikes will emerge, and dodge accordingly.

this boss is absolutely terrible. attacks hit faster than their animations. attacks that should be punishable are just dodged or punish you instead for trying because of his god level poise. plenty of fake out attacks that he actually tricks the player into doing by doing movement cues. parrying is barely worth it since this man has infinite combos, you need to parry on single attacks but since his attacks are not really aligned with the animation good luck with that. i swear the hilt is whats hitting me and not his actual hammer head thats considered the attack. there is also this annoying projectile attack that has no visual or audio cue. it just happens seemingly random (the cue is he dashes behind you).

the boss would be good if it doesnt feel like a glitched piece of trash. so far my most hated boss in this game.

      • Damn what a fight! I haven't had to pay attention in a boss fight like that all game. Idk what these whiners are talking about I think this was the best boss fight in the game. So much so, I almost wonder if they hired someone outside the company to design this one fight lol. Super stamina intensive, though. Learning his melee attack timings for parrying highly recommended.

The best designed boss and probably the best boss in this game, problem is, rest of the package is garbage. If rest of the game was designed at least half as well as this boss, this would be absolutely amazing game.

Higher health pool than even end game bosses, making him not die in 5 seconds, very aggressive and fast, both dodging and parrying are useful and rewarding here, varied moveset that is still readable and can be well reacted to and you can use your lamp on him unlike 80% of other bosses.
Almost every big attack he does ends with him standing down for a few moments and you can attack him for free, so as long as you can survive his chains and avoid massive slow aoe attacks, you still get enough openings for attack even if you cant parry or dodge properly.

This should definitely be final boss or at least some main antagonist, unlike sissyreaper, who only makes it to endgame because killing him in tutorial ruins your quests.
