Abiding Defenders LOTF Fight Strategy
The Best Tips for Abiding Defenders:
- Recommended Spells: Aura of Tenacity
- Recommended Items: Smite Cure, Holy Ward, Bleed Resistance Balm
- Both Defenders healthbars must be eliminated in short time, as too long enough and downed Defender will return
The Abiding Defenders are identical and carry a sword that can be imbued with Holy and can build up Smite when successfully hit. They must be defeated together, or at least soon after the other because they have the ability to revive one another once they are defeated and fallen. Upon initially animating, immediately run up to them to begin their attacks since they are likely to begin the fight with one of their Holy attacks. This gives you an opening to attack them as they lift their swords to summon down Holy Sword throughout the arena. This holy attack takes a while to play out. Avoid the glowing spots. It is also recommended to run out of their vicinity since these words will move in and will cut and cause bleed if you do not steer clear of their paths.
The rest of their attacks are standard melee attacks that can be enhanced with holy damage or ranged projectiles. These are mainly telegraphed and slow-moving. The stance that they take is usually indicative of their upcoming action. In between some actions, they will hold their sword upright which will give you a moment to attack them freely.
For their ranged attacks, you will greatly decrease the chances of getting hit if you stay out of their line of sight. Their ranged holy slashes come in diagonal and upright forms which are dependant on the angle of their swing. Both are linear attacks and can be avoided by dodging to either side of the attack. Just make sure to keep tabs on both defender positions and attacks. It will be difficult to isolate either one and clear one ahead of the other in this fight. You might need to alternate and look out for which one has just finished an attack animation to get a few hits in to try to balance their HP. If you can focus on quickly clearing one, it will be much easier to finish off the other, but this needs to be done quickly before the surviving defender reaches the fallen one to revive him. Their attack windows will be long enough so that you can charge an attack or deal a heavier attack. This will quickly deplete their health until they are defeated.
Abiding Defenders Attacks & Counters
Attack | Description | Counter |
Divine Swords | Spots of radiance will appear throughout the boss area which will then explode into holy swords then move in toward the Defender, cutting those caught in its path. | When the attack begins, glowing spots will appear indicative of where the swords will land. Steer clear of these spots then run out of their center for when they move. |
Melee Backhand Swing | A standard backhand swing with a sword. This can be performed with a lunge. | Block this attack, though it will cause Wither |
Melee Strike | Standard overhead swing with a sword | This attack can be blocked, but will cause Wither |
Lunge Thrust | The Defender takes a step forward and takes a stab with its sword. | This is a telegraphed attack and he will likely already be holding his sword forward in preparation for this attack. Dodge or block as soon as he draws the sword back before thrusting forward. |
Leap | The Defenders can leap in the area and make a hard landing that can inflict holy damage. | Upon the initial jump, immediately dodge back away. |
Holy Slash Projectile | Their sword slash can send out a holy-laced slash projectile in a linear direction. The Slash follows the shape of the direction of the swing which can send out a diagonal slash projectile. | The diagonal slash will take up more space and you will need to sprint out of the path of the stack or steer clear of the Defender's line of sight to avoid getting caught in these attacks |
Holy Strike Projectile | Like the slash projectile, except this follows a strike attack and the ranged holy attack travels upright in a linear path ont the ground | Dodge or side step the directional narrow attack. |

I think it's random which sword (Ebonlight or Luminous Abiding Defender Sword) you get from the boss. Maybe based on which one of the two you kill first? No idea.
