The Iron Wayfarer (Boss) LOTF Fight Strategy

The Best Tips for The Iron Wayfarer (Boss):

The Iron Wayfarer wields a hammer and has the ability to deal umbral magic that can add additional effects to his attacks including Burn. The addition of magic greatly enhances their effectiveness and can increase the range of certain attacks. The Iron Wayfarer has pretty heavy movements and does not move too quickly or have any special mobility abilities or the ability to dash. If you keep a distance, he will run at an average speed and may even have a difficult time angling himself toward you. At times he will choose to dodge roll to reposition himself. At the start of the fight, his attacks are standard heavy hammer swings and strikes. Eventually, he will charge up his weapon with fire and his attacks thereafter will be imbued with fire and will build up burn until the flames are exhausted. When he charges it up with fire again, a red circle will radiate around the Iron Wayfarere and his weapon will be lit again.

Despite the fire enhancements, his heavier and limited mobility will make it easier makes it easier for you to try to angle yourself behind him and periodically get a few hits in while avoiding the falmes. Since he relies on heavier attacks, they are not usually dealt in quick combos or sequences. He will land an attack and follow with a brief pause before he picks up his hammer and the next action begins. During this time, quickly dodge each strike and try to dodge forward behind him to get a better angle. You should have time for a charged attack yourself or for a series of smaller attacks. Players can stagger or stun him with enough successful hits and he will be quickly cleared.

Awwww, seems you forgot to NOT open the castle door immediately after beating this dhead, well no Umbral ending for you mah boi!

Genuinely the worst boss I have ever seen in a Soulslike. Tiny arena and ps5 drops to like 15 fps during it. I have to wonder how anyone on the team played this boss and thought it was fine

        • Anonymous

Make sure you soulflay the thing blocking the upper calreth vestige before you go fight the Hobo in the alley.

          • Anonymous

Fight would have been better/fairer in a larger arena ... could not dodge/move/see when he started spamming seismic slam at 1/3 health. Only ended up beating him because I got in two big hits right after transitioning to umbral

            • Anonymous

The seismic slam spam when he gets down to about 1/3 heath is ridiculous in a tiny arena combined with the terrible lock-on dodging in this game

              • Anonymous

Probably the only boss fight in this game I genuinely dislike. I can't see anything when he starts spamming fire explosions because the arena is so small.

                • Anonymous

He is immune to poison, frostbite, and bleed.

Enhanced Lump Hammers and other high poise damage attacks melt him.

                  • Anonymous

The only thing that makes this fight difficult is the absolute dogshit performance of this game on PS5. The matter he starts using his AoE attacks, the FPS drops to single digits. Frustrating as ****.

                    • Anonymous

Just stay close to him and dodge through his attacks, can see everything and will always end up on other side of lingering fire. Frost attacks work and so does poison, as well as physical damage. You can also just spam seismic slam everytime he stalls when you dodge

                      • Anonymous

probably a cool boss, but i couldnt ****ing see a thing because the arena is tiny and his explosions take up half of it.

                        • Anonymous

Playing an inferno build made the frames in this just so much worse. I turned my graphics to "Low" for the fight because I was just having too many frame drops once he started using the AOE attacks. When I turned it back to a higher setting afterward it played ALL of the effects from ALL of my attempts at once and I thought I was going to have a seizure.

It's a soulslike, bosses are suppose to be frustrating until you figure them out. staaaaahhhhhhhhhhp crying

This boss battle is absolute fuming putrid aids ridden dog ****. The """"arena"""" is literally 2x2 meters with no room to dodge or position yourself, the enemy does stupid ass aoe attacks that cover the entire area and ESPECIALLY BLIND THE **** OUT OF YOU 3 TIMES IN A ROW. It's not even a hard battle, just annoying as hell, no skill required, just mash buttons until you win cause half of the time you can't even see what the **** is even happening. Objectively bad design. I defeated him in the second try, and thank God because I don't EVER want to see this clown again. Obviously the protagonist of the first game had to bring with him all the rancid shittiness that was said game. Literally ruined the game for me. **** this stupid ass boss.

The third phase is bullshit, he spams explosions every 2 attacks, fortunately i didn't fight him in my 1st run.

Why does he attack the player though, do we know the lore behind his motivation?
The iron wayfarer is the protagonist from LOTF 2014, and afaik hes not a bad guy, id just like to know the lore behind why he fights the player.

Despite the complaining from other folks, I happened to find this boss exciting and a challenge in comparison to other bosses. Sure, the frame rate drops but still had a good time. Took me about 2 tries before beating him. Rest of you can stay salty lmao

                                    • Anonymous

they put an enemy like him with gigantic aoe attacks in a ****ing hall with no possibility of dodging. every dodge goes into the ****ing wall really bad design, confronted to this Elden Ring bosses are almost acceptable

                                      • Anonymous

Way too small arena, can’t dodge or perfect block consistently due to frame rate drops, and AOE that does loads of damage and completely obscures the screen. Ugh.

                                        • Anonymous

Why does he have lingering aoe attacks in such a tiny arena. If this was designed to purposely frustrate people, its working!
