Griefbound Rowena LOTF Fight Strategy
The Best Tips for Griefbound Rowena:
- Recommended Spells: Inferno Spells
- Recommended Items: Frostbite Cure, Frostbite Resistance Balm
Rowena is a boss who relies on ice-based attacks and spells that build Frostbite. She is encountered in an area with limited space, so her ability to summon ice shard traps can be laborious to maneuver especially when you find yourself backed up in a corner. These shards can linger or immediately disperse depending on the type of attack.
With the limited space you have, you can also get overwhelmed with enemies since she has the ability to summon Umbral entities in the boss area that will all move toward you slowly but consistently. If you can, continue to avoid them throughout the fight. Avoid them without getting cornered. If you find yourself surrounded, you will need to clear them out. It is important to manage your space and positioning throughout the fight with Rowena since you will need to keep tabs on her summons, ice shards, and her incoming projectiles which are all hazards that can be active at the same time.
You can take advantage of the elements of the arena since there are plenty of walls and corners you can hide behind. All these attacks accompanied by her ability to quickly disappear in a pile of ice shards and reappear elsewhere make it hard to approach. You will need to actively move around the arena. Take cover behind the closest corner when it comes to her projectile attacks then try to aggressively approach her when she appears. One get a few hits at a time when you attack before quickly dodging away in preparation for her blast as she repositions.
Griefbound Rowena Attacks & Counters
Attack | Description | Counter |
Umbral Summons | Rowena can summon a number of additional Umbral enemies that will slowly make their way towards you and attack. | You can fight them off once they start to corner you or overwhelm you. Otherwise, they can be avoided. |
Ice Shards Trap | Rowena can summon a line of Ice that will emerge from the ground and linger. Walking through them will cause Frostbite | Roll through the path if you need to cross, otherwise its best to avoid them to avoid all effects and try to go around them. |
Ice Shard attack | Unlike the shards that linger, these crystals will have an indication of where they will emerge and they will not appear in a line. The crystals for this attack will not linger, and are used as an attack if you manage to get caught in the effect area. | Watch out for the ice patterns on the floor that appear before the shards emerge and quickly step away from them before the follow through. |
Ice Projectiles | Rowena has the ability to hurl Ice missile projectiles at the player. you will see them form above her head before they shoot out. | Use the corners of the walls for cover or dodge to either side of her line of sight. |
Ice breath | She can breath a cool breath that will build Frostbite if you are near | Back away from her as she begins this atack |
Ice burst | A large, dense pile of ice shards that can burst out from the ground before shattering itself. | Dodge away from the burst. This also occurs every time Rowena repositions so make sure to dodge away from her after a successful hit since you can expect this action to follow. |

Quite possibly the worst designed enemy in the game. The entirety of Fief is just very badly designed enemy and boss wise.

Had my trouble with her dmg output, but bucket lord was helping me. But no bucket was there afer the fight....

Hide behind the pillars and fire off magma surge a few times ... glad this was one and done, considering what the runback would have been

just bullied her with sword of tooth and nail! didn't teleport once! almost instakill!

Totally fun to fight her 30 seconds after the original fight for like 100 vigor.
I think i was overpowered for this fight. Had a +9 “The Toll” buffed with fire salts. I just ran at her and deleted her. She staggered very easily and her adds died in one hit. My advice is to go full offense

Her adds are the Problem. Shes easy to kill with umbra spear magic

I poisoned this boss, died to her when she had like 8% of her health left, then came back only to find that she wasn't there anymore. I'm assuming the poison killed her after i died somehow. Seems like a bug

Literally ran up and punished her with my long sword, 1.5 stam bars and she was gone.
forsaken grenades are a hard counter to her. She doesn't like to move a lot when she is set up somewhere so one cloud is enough to proc poison. You can absolutely keep her at range so that all she will want to do is fire crystals. You can just hide behind the level geometry to shield from that. This would mean you would have to deal with her adds though, but luckily for you it's just the common zombie fodder ones.
That's one way of going about it. It's not really a fun boss fight.
