Ruiner is a Secondary Boss and Enemy in Lords of the Fallen (LotF). Ruiner is an Umbral Entitiy that guards the bridge at the Fitzroy's Gorge. This is not an optional boss, as players need to defeat it to advance in Lords of the Fallen (LOTF). Bosses are powerful enemies that add challenging experiences to the game. Defeating them grants players with rare and/or unique armaments, armor, magic, and other items. In some cases, they are required to advance the story further.

Ruiner LOTF Fight Strategy

The Best Tips for Ruiner:

The Ruiner wields an aze axe and shield and has a number of ranged spells that can cause Ignite buildup. The ruined does a number of basic melee attacks involving his axe and shield. With his shield, he is also able to block most incoming head on attacks. His most prominent attack is his axe strike which can send out a line of fire and build up the Ignite Status Effect. Keep in mind the narrow, combat area when repositioning yourself. Make sure you leave yourself a gap to escape from his ignite attacks.

As soon as he raises his weapon overhead, immediately dodge out of his direct line of sight to avoid getting caught in the path of fire. When he deploys these larger attacks, he will usually wait it out till when the animation ends before his next attack. If you're in range, you can quickly run behind him to avoid the fire and deal a charged heavy attack.

There will be a window to attack even in between its regular melee attacks as long as it's not dealt in a combo. Quickly run in for a quick standard attack before hopping back to distance yourself before his next action.

Ruiner Attacks & Counters

Attack Description Counter
Axe Swing A combination of forehand and backhand swings This can be blocked or dodged
Shield bash Done when the shield is used as an offensive weapon Step back away from the Ruiner
Ignite Strike An axe strike on the ground that can be accompanied by a ranged line of fire that builds Ignite As soon as he raises the weapon overhead, steer clear of the path ahead of him to avoid the incoming path of fire.
Ignite Totem The animation begins with him tapping his shield, followed by a steam of magma that will form a pulsating totem.  Destroy the totem when deployed
Fire Charge The Ruiner begins charging forward leaving a path of fire. Continue to run away as he charges.
Magma Steps The Ruiner leaves a trail of magma pools where he steps Players will need to avoid the trail he leaves behind.

    • Confirmed today that the Ruiners in Bramis Castle also drop 2x Served hands; still rare. Been farming the one before the boss for its spell and have got a few served hands from it now.

Struggled with this guy at first, charged attacks after careful dodging of his slow moves made him easy tho.

Stuck on him for a few days, playing as a Blackfeather Ranger (with a penchant for using a two handed Crimson Rector Sword) and could only get him down to half. Tried experimenting using a level 4 crossbow, using holy bolts - he went down like Boromir. Thwack thwack thwack. I didn't even have to heal. Hope that helps someone!

The standard variant is most definitely weak against holy damage, unlike what the info currently says. Not sure about the boss though.

He killed me near the middle of the bridge where there's a gap in the wall. The burst from turning umbral knocked him off. Easy victory.

One of the easiest ways to beat them is with a great shield. All of their attacks bounce back when hitting the shield, making them stagger a bit every time.

best place to farm this is lower calrath after the spurned progeny boss. There is a flower bed right next to it where you drop down in to building where you open the door to go down to the mines.

The strat should probably call out the totem, seems like it buffs him and attacks basically do nothing. Bait him to one side of the bridge then dodge past him and quickly destroy the totem, should only take a few quick hits.

From looking at the alehouse go to the lower path with the large bonfire, theres a ruiner with a flowerbed just past him, super easy to farm his drops there.

Absolutely ridiculous levels of posture lol took 11 straight parries to down him once. Don't waste your time.

                        • I just beat this boss on the bridge and I didn't get the shield or boots. Instead, I got the Ruiner Axe and Ruiner Armor (Medium Torso armor). So I don't believe the boss has a set drop, instead it's from a pool. I think the entry should be edited to reflect this.
