Gerlinde | Lords of the Fallen Wiki

Gerlinde is an NPC and a Blacksmith in Lords of the Fallen (LotF). Gerlinde is a Grouk woman accompanied by a creature she calls Sparky. You will first encounter her while she is imprisoned in the mines beneath the Pilgrim's Perch. NPCs interact with players in different ways, even giving them Quests and rewards as they complete them. This guide will also cover how to find the Blacksmith in LotF.

Where to find Gerlinde in Lords of the Fallen

Gerlinde can initially be found at Pilgrim's Perch

• Nearest Vestige: Vestige of Blind Agatha
• This NPC moves to Skyrest Bridge after you free her from her jail cell
• This NPC can be killed by using Gerlinde's Seedpod on her (required for completing the Umbral Ending). She will drop x1 Gerlinde's Hammer by doing so. BUT, you cannot use the seedpot if you refused to give her the third tablet

How to Unlock the Blacksmith in LotF

After activating the Vestige of Blind Agatha, you will see an elevator opposite it that can be used to reach the lower levels of the mine. However, this elevator isn't working yet. You'll have to continue through the tunnels ahead, and you'll eventually emerge into a cavern featuring a lake. Defeat the four Pilgrims ahead, then go to the other side and defeat the other five. Before you continue any further, you can point your Umbral Lamp at the water and find some stairs going up to a side room. 

Keep following the path, past the red growths on the wall, and you'll eventually get to a small room with a chest and an Umbral Flowerbed. Go past the hallway until you reach the balcony outside. At the end of the tunnel, take the ladder going down. Continue downwards, descending down the next ladder. You can cross a wooden beam on your right to find one cluster of Radiant Bolts. Nearby, you'll find a ladder going down. Descend the ladder and defeat the Pureblade, Pilgrim, and three Radiant Hounds at the bottom. After eliminating them, pick up the items that they will drop, including a 1x Prison Cell Key. You can hear some hammering in the distance, indicating the presence of the Blacksmith. As you explore the depths of the mine, you will find the Blacksmith is locked inside a cell.

As you approach her, she will complain about the sentinels, their bells, and how they insult her skills. After exhausting her dialogues, she will tell you to hand over "that" key. Then, you will get an option to hand over the Prison Cell Key (the one you looted from the Pilgrim), or do nothing. A blacksmith would serve you well so you must free Gerlinde, by handing over the Prison Cell key. Ascend the ladder after you're done with this lower area. Up ahead and to the right, you'll find an elevator that takes you back up to the Vestige of Blind Agatha. Use it to unlock the shortcut, then you can return to Skyrest Bridge where she will set up shop together with Sparky.

Once you have made your way to her shop, she will ask for your help to retrieve some items, or specifically, tablets that contain valuable runesmithing secrets created by Sparky. An odd duo, it appears that Sparky has been enslaved by Gerlinde and is wearing manacles that keep it from fighting back. Sparky refuses to tell you the locations of the tablets, but Gerlinde insists that if you help her retrieve those, she can help you in runesmithing and even expand her inventory.

After exhausting her dialogues, you can now see her items for sale, and upgrade your equipment. You can also return to the cell that they vacated in Pilgrim's Perch to recover some Small Deralium Fragment that was left behind.

 

Recover the Scattered Tablets

As previously mentioned by Gerlinde, Sparky possesses valuable knowledge in runesmithing. All of these were carved into tablets and kept secret from Gerlinde. As a Blacksmith, she will ask you for the following items and promises that she can give you stronger upgrades when the items are recovered. Below you will see how to find Gerlinde's Tablets in Lords of the Fallen:

• Cracked Rune Tablet - Found within Fitzroy's Gorge. This will unlock rune options. After defeating The Hushed Saint, continue on the right path by the cliff side. Defeat the enemies until you reach the cave section. Keep walking on the main path until you come across a gap that will require you to cross to the Umbral Realm. Then, stay on this path until you encounter Drustan, then continue walking down the path, and use the ladder at the end of the platform. Keep walking until you see a glowing item at the edge of the cliff to get the Cracked Rune Tablet.
• Chipped Rune Tablet - Found in a house in Upper Calrath leading to Sunless Skein. This will unlock further rune options. After defeating the Spurned Progeny, stay on the main path until you reach the city and drop down inside the house. Explore the interior and go down the stairs where you see an enemy standing in front of the fireplace. Defeat the enemy and take the Chipped Rune Tablet behind it.
• Rune Tablet - Found in a chest near the top of the tower in Tower of Penance. From the top of the tower, walk past the stigma then exit the alcove and head to the left to drop down onto another platform. Be careful of the Shrouded Remnant that shoots projectiles at you as you make your way across the narrow beams, and look inside one of the jailcell, to find an Emergence Effigy. Fall onto the grates below and defeat the multiple Avowed and Marksmen, as well as an Ardent Penitent. On the outer ring of this floor, you can find several items and objects of note. The chest containing the Rune Tablet is found by the divider wall.

 

Once you find the rune tablet, both Gerlinde and Sparky will ask you for the tablet. Sparky tells you that he only dreams of his freedom and if you give it to Gerlinde, she will have no use of him anymore. If you decide to give it to Sparky, he will be able to free himself from the manacles created by Gerlinde. As a reward, he will grant you the ability to perform runesmithing at Vestiges, this includes upgrading your equipment and socketing your gear without visiting Gerlinde. However, this will anger Gerlinde and her prices will double.

If you decide to give the tablet to Gerlinde, Sparky will disappear from your world forever after resting at a Vestige or traveling outside of Skyrest Bridge. Gerlinde will also reward you with Crafter's Essence. She will also tell you that she's back to working alone and better at her craft. She further shares that she'll be moving to Sterleveaux Commonwealth now that she has acquired the knowledge in Rune smithing. 

 

Gerlinde's Role in Endings in Lords of the Fallen

Unlocking the Umbral Ending in Lords of the Fallen will require killing certain NPCs. By doing so, it will automatically lock out players from completing their quests as well as interacting with them. To unlock the Umbral Ending, do the following related to Gerlinde:

• In Mother's Lull, first, interact with the non-hostile Remnant to acquire Gerlinde's Seedpod.
• Use the Seedpod on Gerlinde to kill her. By doing this, it will grant access to the second floating platform in Mother's Lull.

Small Deralium Fragments: Can be purchased (unlimited quantity) after 

Regular Deralium Nuggets: Can be purchased (unlimited quantity) after passing the Vestige of Hooded Antuli and entering the Sunless Skein for the first time.

Large Deralium Shards: Can be purchased (unlimited quantity) after entering the Abbey of the Hallowed Sisters for the first time.
