Paladin's Burden is a Secondary Boss in Lords of the Fallen (LotF). Paladin's Burden is an optional boss that can be found in the Path of Devotion in the Umbral Realm. This is an optional boss, as players do not need to defeat it to advance in Lords of the Fallen (LOTF). Bosses are powerful enemies that add challenging experiences to the game. Defeating them grants players with rare and/or unique armaments, armor, magic, and other items. In some cases, they are required to advance the story further.

Paladin's Burden LOTF Fight Strategy

The Best Tips for Paladin's Burden:

  • Recommended Spells: Putrefaction
  • Recommended Items: To be Added

Paladin's Burden wields a long sword used to deal a number of basic sword-fighting combat moves such as differing swings that include overhead strikes, uppercut swings, and side swings. He can also imbue his weapon with Fire which builds the Ignite status effect and can deal a few Radiant Spells that can build up Smite

The Paladin's Burden's standard melee attacks can be strung together in a combo. He can also dash side to side in between attacks. His moves are swift and he is an agile character. However, his heavy weapon does not allow him to run very fast. Keeping a distance will force him to run at you at a steady speed or use his Smite attack that will affect different areas of the combat zone. He does not have any charge attacks to look out for. If you approach him aggressively he may use a knockback AoE that can send an umbral blast outward and knock you over if you're caught in the blast zone. If you can get your positioning and timing right, you will be able to deal a heavy or charged attack in between his combos as he runs in or even be able to interrupt an attack.

You will need to do a combination of backing up and charging your attack and then dealing it once he comes close, except for when he releases his Smite lightning. For the duration of that attack you will need to run to keep from getting struck and avoid his advances until the whole attack plays. out.

Paladin's Burden Attacks & Counters

Attack Description Counter
Melee Sword Swing A variety of melee attacks include uppercut, overhead and side swings. Melee attacks can be dealt in a combo Roll or sidestep to the opposite side of the swing. If its an overhead swing, dodge to the side. This could put you in a better position to attack. You can also back step away from the attacks.
Strike  An overhead melee sword attack.   Dodge to either side. This usually follows with a brief idle period where you can take the opportunity to run in and attack before he lifts his sword and resumes combat.
Ignite AoE A small AoE attack where a melee attack can combust upon impact which can build Ignite. Dodge back or away from the area of effect.
Knockback AoE Paladin's Burden can send out a blast of Umbral Magic that will   Dodge back away from he affected area.
Smite Lightning Strike Paladin's Burden conjures up a storm. Soon after the action starts, bolts of Smite Lightning will repeatedly strike down on the ground.   The animation begins as he puts away his sword and a spark flies around him as he makes a circular motion with his hands as a fog appears. Once the lightning starts you will be forced to keep moving as he advances and continues to fight while the lightning is ongoing.

I understand that it's not the most honorable way to defeat him, but if you have difficulty I'll give you some advice:
-Choose a nice Bow or Crossbow of your choice, the one that suits you best.
-Equip the Crossbowman's Ring and the Blackfeather Ranger Ring
-Keep a good stock of ammunition bags, even small ones are fine (generally between 20 and 50)
-Bring your chosen weapon to at least +5

Poke him with arrows/darts until he collapses to the ground.

And here is the formula for winning against the most engaging and exciting bossfight ever created in all Action RPG games

Greatshield, with stamina boost and weight reduction runes

          Mineowners ring.

Stick close to him and trade shots, when he hops back he's about to heal or use that smite storm, try to pop him a quick one in case it's a heal... but be ready to dodge if it isn't.

I would advise against using a slower weapon but if that's your thing go for it.

For pyros, hitting him with seismic slam every time you can get separation from him gets this done. When he spawns lightning, just keep running around the edge of the arena until it stops.

This boss was a pain in the ass with a fallen lords sword...dual wield with some sort of status, i used bleed + burn with bloodlust + axe of the flayed +5 with 30/30 agi inferno and it is a drastically different fight. Trade aggressively, taking a hit or two with medium weight armor to apply bleed + burn is worth it, the damage is negligible if you are healthy, if youre lucky the burn will take care of most of his healing, otherwise have something you can throw, it can deal 2 damage, doesnt matter, i used fireball, anything to easily knock off the wither...Continue to trade aggressively and its relatively easy compared to a good ol fashion UGS v UGS with this estus chugger, which is a shame. 0 honor paladin

This fight would probably look quite a bit cooler if the camera wasn't moved up 10 feet into the air like it is for bosses 3x your size. Isaac isn't any bigger than you are so as-is it just means the top two-thirds of your screen are empty white space

This is the worst fight and hardest boss in the whole game, he heals constantly, spams the radiance storm spell and has wicked high poise , I've beat the game 3 times and only was able to beat him once and took me over 15+ tries to beat him , good luck trying to beat him your in for a terrible fight, devs did bad job creating him.

I do not know what it is, but this is easily the hardest boss in the game for me. Nothing else even comes close. The huge heal, the spam lighting, it's just absurdly annoying to me. Worst part, it's not even a satisfying fight. The pace feels wonky af. Only playthrough I didn't have trouble was the one where I spammed Lucent beam.

I don't know if he had a nerf, but I was able to out DPS him before he attempted to heal. The fight lasted about a minute for me.

I tanked em with the shield of whispers on NG, (though any great shield might work) he mainly resorts to melee if you stick close, cuts down on the tedious fight time if you aren't dodging dozens of smite blasts or letting him heal up...recommend a healthy stamina bar.

it's really easy but healing can result in a very long fight.
poison can be effective to compensate a little: fungal dagger and kukajin short sword works good for me.

Moves are ok but why the **** is that guy healing so much ? just fought him and he healed like 4 times!!!
30% of his hp almost instantly I killed him like 2,2 times in 1 fight due to his insane healing

                              • For a minor optional boss, this dude is cheap AF.

The runback is total bullshit, too. Avowed with a parasite and a Crimson Rectum?

Archers than can hit you through the boss gate?

                                Thanks guys. Thanks.

                                    How to balance this boss:
                                    1. Adjust how far he can gap-close with his attacks.

                                    2. Reduce the casting frequency of the lighting spell, make it last for 2-3 and slightly increase the delay on the visual que before the strike by a small margin.

                                    3. Force the boss into a specific attack pattern following the lighting spell making this more of a learnable attack pattern that can be blocked/avoided.

                                    4. Decrease poise during the healing spell channeling and increase delay, add an audio que or quote to the boss as he prepares the cast, and either adjust the cast time or healing value.

                                    5. Add a barrier to the areana removing outside interference from the archer(s).

                                    6. The boss can stick to a casting player a bit too well, I can barely ever fit in a timing for baiting an attack & getting off a quick spell. Either reduce the range on his dodges/attack combos or remove those traits in trade for an actual gap-closer attack.

                                    7. Increase physical damage when the boss lands a chain attack on a player. This will help balance the bosses damage output to still feel threatening without it being gimmicky.

                                    8. Give the boss the Sanctuary ground spell to be used once in tandem with his fire enchant after he reaching less than 30% hp. After this enrage he will also stop casting his normal heal & lighting spls while opting to stay close to the player. The boss will also stay inside Sanctuary while it is activated but he can be pulled out by using Soulflay, this rewards players for using a main game mechanic that can skipped in most battles. The heal will bring him to 55% health if the boss is not damaged/removed from the AOE.

                                    9. Give him more taunts when he kills a player. This boss can still be plenty frustrating and that last taunt is what really grinds my gears and motivates me to even suggest these changes since this could be a very fun boss fight once some of the gimmicks are corrected. Thoughts?

For a character like he was presented the bossfight was very disappointing. And I'm talking about the gameplay side wich is ****ing boring as hell he has just a basic moveset and has one magic attack wich is stupid and makes me want to quit for the boringness, and the story side wich was presented like a deep and "tragic?" character but his boss fight was just there with nothing at all, he has one ****ing stupid line and does the ****ing point down when he kills you or does a parry wich is funny for a random enemy but not for an Important character like he is in the game.

One of the worst bosses in any Fromsoft or Soulslike game I have ever had the displeasure of fighting.

                                        >hyperarmour
                                        >very high HP
                                        >weird and shitty attack pattern
                                        >heals back to full randomly at 60-75% HP, literally cannot out-dps it unless you have some weird ass build
                                        >aggressive lightning attack that bombards the ground wherever you are that goes on for way too long so you just have to run away

This game was not played by the devs, or playtested at all. The balancing of this game is legit one of the worst I have ever seen in any game. It's so ****ing bad.

use poison. don’t care how you do it (you should have that ring that lets you use umbral spells with any talisman or some salts). stack it with bleed if you can (also a ring for that)

really helps to deal with his heal spam.

devs, if for some reason you see this- make his heal animation take longer so it can be canceled if you’re not right on his ass, and make that spell waaaaaaay shorter. dodging is fun, running away every 30 seconds is not.

By far the worst boss fight in the game; not because of it being particularly difficult, but rather because it relies entirely on cheapness rather than an interesting move set. Aside from the occasional parry if you try to attack him with a melee weapon, he just continously spams heal and that homing lightning attack.
If the guys in the development team considers this a good boss battle, they're delusional beyond words.

this might be the worst fight ive seen in this game if you dont kill the archer outside they can just snipe you through the walls and mind you those attacks almost one shot not even gonna mention mr infiniheals the archer using wallhacks is wild to me

                                              • Anonymous

Maybe I'm just bad but this guy keeps outhealing my attacks. This fight will take me at least 15 minutes because of his stupid heal. And before you tell me, oh you can just cancel it, canceling the heal only cancels half of the heal, not all of it. **** this boss
