The Sundered Monarch is a Colossal Boss in Lords of the Fallen (LotF). The Sundered Monarch is a devout Monarch encountered while paying respects and can be found in Bramis Castle. This is not an optional boss, as players need to defeat it to advance in Lords of the Fallen (LOTF). Bosses are powerful enemies that add challenging experiences to the game. Defeating them grants players with rare and/or unique armaments, armor, magic, and other items. In some cases, they are required to advance the story further.

The Sundered Monarch LOTF Fight Strategy

The Best Tips for The Sundered Monarch:

The Sundered Monarch is a giant. He begins the fight kneeled in the corner allowing you to run in and get the first initial hits of the battle. If you do that, watch out for his hand that can swipe backward and an AoE Slam attack that can quickly combust and build up Burn. For the most part of this phase, he will be generally idle while remaining in the corner aside from a few basic actions. Other attacks include standard fist slamming and punching. The second phase (Or the real start of the fight) will begin shortly after you begin to attack. After getting a few attacks in, a scene will begin revealing the regrowth of his arm and his interaction with the statue.

Phase 2

For the second phase, he now wields a large stone part from the decapitated statue. This is when the fight actually begins. He will now be able to move around the boss area hauling the heavy stone. His attacks are heavy and slow-moving but powerful. he has a very long reach and can charge ahead and once in a while perform AoE slams with the newly wielded statue part. For the most part, his attacks are telegraphed and you will be able to react to his attacks. Since they encompass such a large area, it may be hard to sprint away in time to completely avoid or dodge the incoming attacks if you're going to approach him, but he can be staggered with ranged attacks or other Ammunition items as well, so you can try to use those if you're having difficulty depending on melee combat.Animations to look out for include his stomps or AoE attacks that begin with a leap or any large overhead swinging or striking that is usually followed by the boss first pulling back his arm before following through.

Try to stay clear of his arm or remain underneath him to avoid the sweeping attacks when he swipes his arm back. If you want to get close to him to attack, you will need to run into him as he adjusts his angles and quickly reposition yourself as he jumps and switches directions. Keep to the area behind his ankles. Most attacks will project forward including his ranged attacks, dives, and lunges.

When he reaches about half health, he begins to enrage himself and is able to deal more attacks that can build Burn, and Ignite. His AoE attacks can temporarily turn the floor into a burning crust and he can now surround himself with projectile burning swords. If you stay close to him during this attack, you can avoid the sword. You can also keep being him in preparation for when he decides to dive. There will be a brief period where he remains on the ground and you can freely continue to attack him before he rises again.

The Sundered Monarch Lore, Notes & Other Trivia

  • This is the only in-game encounter, that can end without player/cooperator delivering the killing blow, as Monarch will eventually die due to bleeding.
  • Poison is an effective status effect you can use against the Sundered Monarch for damage. Three enhanced Poison Javelins are enough to proc poison and it does 144 damage per tick. You can also use Poison weapons like Fungus-Encrusted Pickaxe, Bow of the Convert, Fungal Bowman Dagger, Precision Hammer, and other weapons or magic that deal poison damage.
  • Using the Enhanced Lump Hammer can also be used to stagger and damage the Sundered Monarch, using this can trivialize this boss fight easily.

Really bro, really? You cant get even inventory right, you really think you can pull off giant boss when even fromsoft cant do that, because they suck and are offscreen most of the time?

      • Anonymous

Honestly really well done “Giant” boss. Fromsoft should take notes. Had a great time fighting this guy he’s a million times better than Fire Giant.

        • Anonymous

I beat this guy on my first try with an absurd cheese strategy.

At the bottom of the steps leading to his arena, there is a secret in Umbral that gets you an amulet that basically gives you infinite ammunition, at the cost of withering your health for every "free" arrow you fire. As long as that arrow hits its target, you get the withered health right back.

I had a maxed out Assassin's Bow and 40 dex, and a fully charged arrow stuns him so bad that you've just about got the next arrow charged before he can recover. With just a minor effort, I was able to pretty much stun lock him for as long as my stamina lasted. I didn't even see most of his attacks.

Last poster here again,I need to correct my self . Poison simply melts him . 75 inferno,75 agility,25 radiance build ,poison weapon (Umbral) ticks something like 650 . It was really fun, challenging fight. Beaten him second try with. Good luck lads

They buffed him again with the latest patch 3 days ago . Insane amount of health in ng+ . The old dude is now almost impossible challenge

              • Poison is pretty effective against him. Three enhanced poison javelins are enough to proc poison. It does 144 damage per tick. If you really want to cheese him, pummel him with enhanced lump hammers until finished

Are we sure there are no secrets to this boss other than the perfume? I mean he doesn't fight you until you hit him and when his health is very low he starts crawling to the statue ignoring you.
I just wish there was a hidden quest for this poor man

                  • Anonymous

Says weak to bleed and smite but I've never seen those proc a single time and I have the two greatswords that do 300 of one and the other. Sooooo lies?

All these Godfrey comparisons lol. He reminds me way more of King Vendrick from Dark Souls 2. A, once just, now maddened king still deeply in love with his missing wife. Also mostly naked lmao.

Father Crystal Meth Ariandel has a hilariously large health pool even just in NG+1, would have said status effects are a must have but we couldn't get any to proc on him during the entire fight... suspected poison immunity amongst others?

                        • Anonymous

Geez everyone whines so much about the bosses instead of enjoying. Don't get me wrong the Adyr one was a definite hit home with critics but as you go through these discussions so much complaining. Like seriously when you play the souls genre this is it if you think there is better then go play better otherwise make a superior souls game, All the resources are available nowadays. I remember when Fextra was flooded with strategy and lore discussion.

Absolute Joke of a boss. you can stagger him with projectiles/range so bring some ammo and shoot away. He staggers and can be basically stunlocked.
